The Book

Though the cover is worn

And the pages are torn

Though places bear traces of tears

Still more precious than gold

Is this Book worn and old

That can shatter and scatter my fears.

This old Book is my Guide

Tis a Friend by my side

It will lighten and brighten my way

And each promise I find

Soothes and gladdens my mind

As I read it and heed it each day.

TARES AMONG THE WHEAT

"But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way."
MATTHEW 13:24-30

Satan has secretly infitrated the Church with some of his followers for the purpose of hindering the influence of the Church. This has been a more effective strategy than direct opposition.
These tares that are spoken of refer to the Old World variety of darnel, which is poisonous. Virtually all grains are almost
indistinguishable from tares when they send up the first blade from the ground. By the time the tares become distinguishable, they are so well rooted that, if growing in close proximity to a productive grain,
uprooting the tares would also mean uprooting the productive grain.
Therefore, verse 30 admonishes us to let both grow together until the
harvest. The grains of the tares are long and black in contrast to the
wheat, and are easily recognizable at harvest time. Many will profess
Christianity, but "by their fruits ye shall know them."

There will be those who are deceived and unaware that they are not
born again, who will remain among the Church. Jesus warns us against trying to root them out especially since it is not always possible to discern other people's hearts. In an effort to
destroy these tares, we might offend one of Christ's "little ones" and cause his or her profession of faith to waver.

It is important, though, for our own personal benefit that we be aware that the children of the Wicked One are placed among the true believers. Our best defense is to preach theWord of God without watering it down. False brethren will not endure sound doctrine. They leave when the Word, which is sharper
than any two-edged sword, begins to expose the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Stick to the Word!

Relationships - Words That Wound

Introduction: James 4:9-12

9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

1. conflicts cant' be solved by just one side.
2. We tend to focus on the other person's actions and attitudes and not our own.
3. Our inner lusts, (feelings, desires, and pride) clouds our understanding of the conflict.

Be Careful of What You Say:

1. These verses are dealing with relational conflicts.
2. These verses are dealing with what we are saying during these conflicts.
3. The most hurtful words are said in judging someone in ways that are not Biblical.

What is Biblical Judging?

1. Make sure you have the facts right.
Don't assume one side is right.
Don't assume what you are told is all the facts.
What you're told may be true - but is it all of the truth? Missing information can be just as dangerous
     as false information.

2. Judge their actions against what the Bible ways. (Matt. 18:15)
They are wrong because the Bible is right.
Deal with specific actions compared with specific Biblical commands.

3. We are not to judge someones motive or heart. (I Sam. 16:7, Rom.14:1)
Judgement based on assumed motives is a false judgement.

4. We are to judge in order to correct the one who is wrong. Matt. 18:15)
If what you are saying is not a part of the correcting process then you should not be talking about it.

5. We are to judge in order to warn others about the wrong. (II Thess. 3:13)

6. The above principles apply primarily to judging believers but are profitable in judging unbelievers as well.
     (James 4:11)
